Periodontal / gum advice - helping to support your teeth
Did you know that over 90% of the population show some signs of gum disease, but the majority do not realise it. This is due to the fact that in some cases it can be a silent problem and may go undetected by the patient. At Village Dentalcare we take regular measurements of your gums and screen all patients for this to monitor their future health.
We have an on site dental hygienist who specialises in the cleaning and scaling of teeth. She conducts a fresh breath clinic and will also ensure that you are able to brush your teeth correctly to maximise the effects and help you care for your teeth and gums. Regular cleaning with the hygienist protects your teeth from the accumulation of unwanted dental plaque and calculus. The hygienist will be able to provide you with a custom made plan that ensures that you clean every aspect of your teeth, which enables you to maintain this healthy state in the comfort of your own home.
At Village Dentalcare, we also offer airflow which is a special type of tooth polishing. It works wonders on stained teeth and in a matter of minutes you have back those pearly whites. Airflow uses a gentle powder and can remove stains that cannot be eliminated by toothpaste alone.
Restorative dental care - reinventing your smile
At Village Dentalcare we offer a wide variety of methods which can be implicated in the restoration of teeth.

Tooth colour fillings

Unlike silver (amalgam) fillings, white filling material sticks to teeth. Therefore it's great for repairing front teeth that are chipped, decayed or worn. They can also be used to reshape your teeth and improve your smile. Teeth also need less preparation for a white filling compared to silver filling so allowing your dentist to preserve more of your natural tooth tissue. White fillings are less noticeable than silver fillings, which turn black in the mouth. Your dentist will be able to match the white filling material to the colour of your own teeth as it is available in a range of shades. Root canal treatment
In the centre of each tooth is some soft tissue called the pulp, this contains cells, nerves and a small blood supply.
Decay or injury to a tooth can destroy living pulp tissue, leaving the tooth prone to infection, hence toothache and abscess. Root canal treatment (endodontics) means removal of the damaged or dead pulp and filling the space that is left.Porcelain crowns
The crown of the tooth is the part which is visible in the mouth. An artificial crown completely covers a tooth above the gum line and protects it. If a tooth is to be crowned it is shaped by the dentists so that with the artificial crown will be the same size as a normal tooth. A crown is strong and can look and feel exactly like a natural tooth. The colour and shape can be matched to your own teeth. Crowns can also improve the appearance of misshapen or discoloured teeth.Bridges
A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth in the dental arch. This is achieved be making a bridge which fixes a replacement tooth (or teeth) to the natural remaining teeth on either side of the gap which is to be filled. Bridge can have many designs and your dentist will be able to give you advice on the most suitable option for your individual case. The advantage of a bridge is that it lets you forget that you have any missing teeth, it improves the way you look, bite, chew and speak. It also protects the natural teeth from wear, tear and from moving or tilting out of line into a space that has been created after you have a tooth removed, which could alter the way you bite.-
Inlays /Onlays
You can also have inlays or onlays instead of fillings to repair damaged teeth. An inlay sits in a cavity in the tooth whereas an onlay sits on the tooth and builds its shape. They can be made in tooth-coloured porcelain, gold or white filling material. These are made outside the mouth in a laboratory unlike fillings. Inlays and onlays are strong and can last longer that fillings, they are especially suitable for large repairs to teeth and to help protect the chewing surface of a tooth. -
Implants
An implant is a brilliant way of replacing missing teeth.
Unlike normal replacement teeth implants are mounted onto titanium posts which are inserted into the jaw. Some patients are unable to tolerate a removable denture, and dental implants can be a last chance for eating, speaking and improving your appearance.
They are fixed in the mouth and do not involve any of the surrounding teeth to replace a missing tooth. You should discuss with your dentist whether implants would be right for you. Veneers
A veneer is a thin layer of tooth coloured material that is put onto the front of a tooth to improve its appearance. They hide imperfections in the tooth, and work wonders for teeth that are discoloured or damaged. Veneers are also used solely to improve the appearance of an individuals smile as a part of cosmetic dentistry.Dentures
A removable denture replaces missing teeth; this can be partial to replace a few teeth or a full/complete denture to replace a full dental arch if all teeth are missing. Complete dentures are often made of acrylic (plastic) whereas partial dentures can consist of acrylic teeth on a light metal alloy base; this type of denture is more secure and less bulky.
Conscious sedation - making you smile
This is a modern form of anxiety control, which is used routinely in dental practices; it is both effective and highly predictable. It allows our caring team to be able to treat patients with dental phobias and anxieties in an environment which ensures patient comfort. The patient enters a deep state of relaxation which ensues that there visit is pleasant.

People who feel good about themselves interact positively with others. Many adults live with smile problems simply because they don't know how easy it is to get an attractive smile!

Cosmetic dentistry is no longer only for the front teeth those old silver fillings that have made your back teeth dark and unattractive can now be replaced with state of the art materials that will make your teeth stronger, healthier and much more attractive.

There are many causes of tooth discolouration, substances like tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco smoke are the most common. Some medications and ageing can cause your teeth to stain over time.
